World of Goo Is Metacritic’s iPad Game of the Year!

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

Our friend Amin just sent us a link to a metacritic report that names World of Goo Metacritic’s iPad Game of the Year, being the #1 top reviewed iPad game of 2010 with a score of 95.  Wow, what an honor!

Amin, by the way, is the mutual friend who introduced Kyle and I to each other back in 2006 so he is as responsible as anyone for the creation of World of Goo. Double thanks, Amin!

Hidden Meat Boy in World of Goo iPad Challenge!

Monday, December 20th, 2010

[Update: Challenge complete! See winner at bottom of post.] World of Goo for iPad has been out for a few days now, but nobody seems to have discovered that there is a little stowaway in the game yet.

There is a little Meat Boy hidden in one of the levels of the iPad version of World of Goo. Where could the little bloody guy be? He’s a slippy one!

Inspired by Willy Wonka, whoever finds the hidden Meat Boy first and tells us where he is via this contact form, gets A TOUR OF OUR FACTORY a free download code for gifting the iPad version. This is just for fun, and follows the honor system – please no decompiling the game or other forms of rotten behavior, or the Ooompa Loompas will have a song for you.

Good luck!

Update: Congrats to Detective Jimmy who found Meat Boy in less than two hours from the time this challenge was posted. Good sleuthing. Meat Boy’s location is revealed here, between the highlightable spoiler brackets:

World of GOOD

Monday, November 29th, 2010

We’re wrapping up development of World of Goo for iPad, and we have an extra iPad left over that we weren’t sure what to do with. We’ve decided to give away this extra iPad, along with a pre-release build of World of Goo, before it becomes available to the rest of the world on the App Store.

In the spirit of the holiday season, all you have to do is be good. Do a good deed and tell us about it by leaving a comment on this blog post. Make sure you leave a description of the good deed, a link to a photo of you doing the good deed, and double check that the email you specify is accurate so that we can get in touch with you if we need to send you the iPad.  [UPDATE: you have to actually go out and do a good deed in the present.  Past and future good deeds, no matter how awesomely good, do not count.]

Or, if you prefer, you may also make a donation of any amount to a good cause by clicking this button:

[UPDATE: event ended dec 8, button has been disabled]

We will split up 100% of the donated amount (excluding the transaction processing fee) among the following four charities evenly:

  • Children’s Shelter of Cebu – For Arlie, Ron’s wonderful girlfriend, who he never would never have met if it weren’t for those three amazing people who moved from the US to the Philippines to start this orphanage thirty years ago (and are still running it today, 800 children later)
  • National Multiple Sclerosis Society – For our friend Branka, who was diagnosed with MS four years ago and is kicking its butt with with her unshakable positive attitude. Branka participates in MS bike rides to help raise funds for the National MS Society.
  • Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – For our friend Aris. Aris has been raising funds for LLS through their Team in Training program for over a decade now, ever since his father was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Aris participates in century rides and triathalons around the country while raising money for the cause. His father is still alive and kicking and enjoying time with his three grand children.
  • AIDS Legal Referral Panel – A local San Francisco based non-profit organization that provides free legal help to our friends living with HIV/AIDS.

On December 8 we will pick someone at random from among those who participate and send them the iPad, so do your thing before then… help us do a World of GOOD!

Gratefully,
Ron and Kyle
