Goo Oozing Into Europe (Finally!)
PC version officially launches in Europe this Thursday, December 11. It will be available on Steam, amazon.de, and retail stores across Europe (we’ll post a list as soon as we get one from our publisher).
WiiWare version is currently going through lot check and will be out as soon as it is approved. Oz will get World of Goo on the same day as Europe. We’ll post an exact release date as soon as we have one.
The PC version will go for 20 Euros and the WiiWare version will be 1500 Wii Points.
Big thank you to European gamers who have been patient and understanding towards us! This was our first launch and we learned a lot about what NOT to do in the future :)

HA! I just got it. The first time I saw that picture I assumed it was just some goo. Now I looked at it more closely. Very clever.
December 9th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
Yaaaaay!
So – I bought the game online, and enjoyed it hugely. I’m going to buy the game in a box (which will bring less cash to you, though), to put it on my shelf (in case my disk+backup dies).
And it makes a great christmas present!
:-)
What are the chances of getting the downloadable Linux version before Christmas? I know somebody who’d really like that…
Ciao,
Klaus
PS: Nope, I’m not an advertiser or some dips**it like that. I just really, really like the game.
December 10th, 2008 at 12:29 am
Finally! I’ve been waiting for the European release since I’ve played the demo *__*
Let there be Gooooo
(somewhat sounds like Zombie movies :P)
December 10th, 2008 at 12:38 am
yea … finaly europe will be goo-d
:D
December 10th, 2008 at 1:41 am
Just to make it clear: The physical European release of World of Goo includes both the PC and Mac version of the game on one hybrid-disc. Great stuff.
Thanks again to 2D Boy for showing multi-platform love. :-)
December 10th, 2008 at 2:06 am
Wohoo!
I was one of the guys who complained about realeasing it only as retail in europe. The way you said sorry for european customers is very appreciated. You guys are very nice. I´ll buy it on Wiiware the day is launches there.
Hurray for 2dboy!!
December 10th, 2008 at 2:29 am
Finally. Although I already have it lot’s of friends are anxious to buy it :)
December 10th, 2008 at 2:52 am
You can say that again David :P I’ve been showing the demo to a bunch of friends and everyone seems to love the game. I’ve been waiting for it for a while now.
December 10th, 2008 at 3:17 am
Any idea if it will be available on amazon.co.uk in time for Christmas? It’s been on amazon.de for a while (with a date of 12/12 just updated to 12/11) but I’d rather get the English box!

From Amazon.de:
“Price: EUR 19,99 Free delivery on orders of EUR 20 or more!”
Damn you! (Only applied to delivery inside Germany anyway)
Well, at least it’s available now. :-)
December 10th, 2008 at 5:02 am
Well this delay reley helpt the pirates. Pitty you made such a good game and then got it wrong with bringing it to the market.
Anyhow I will be buying it for my wife who loves these games. To bad you don’t have the linux version yet. It will be the WII version I buy.
I hope you can bring more games out and have a honest profit with it!

20 USD in USA and 20 EUR in Europe? What kind of conversion is that? O_o
Europe are paying about a 30% more.
December 10th, 2008 at 5:51 am
Will the WiiWare version be available in Israel also?
December 10th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Not on GAME or amazon.co.uk :O
What is this madness?!
December 10th, 2008 at 7:36 am
@pontfx: In the US, all list prices exclude VAT, so you have to add almost 20% (in Germany). Add the added distribution costs etc, and you’ll get a cost increase that is *way* over 30%. If the developers actually wanted to earn the same for each sale, they would have to increase the price even more.
December 10th, 2008 at 8:03 am
And pntfx, the Euro may be worth more in international terms, but practically you can buy the same things you can get in the US for as much euros as you would pay dollars.
December 10th, 2008 at 8:07 am
Hi!
It’s going to be possible to get the linux version before christmas?
I really want the game, and I would be happy if have it on linux.
See you!

“we learned a lot about what NOT to do in the future :)”
tell me :D
December 10th, 2008 at 10:02 am
Still waiting for the linux version :( :( :(
December 10th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Will it be released here in the UK in any shops, or at either/both of: Play.com / Amazon.co.uk?
I was also wondering are there any differences in the US release of WOG to the European version? If there is I’m just going to buy the US one.
December 10th, 2008 at 10:38 am
@Andreas: In Steam, the service used by 2d boy to distribute the game in the USA and in the EU, the list prices exclude the VAT but also the local taxes by country in the EU. To the 20 EUR listed in Steam you will have to add the 20% in Germany and 16% in Spain. The final price will be 24 and 23.3 EUR respectively.
And in Steam the distribution cost (online download) is the same in USA and EU.
I don’t understand the conversion USD – EUR made by Steam.
December 10th, 2008 at 10:39 am
By the way I tried the mac version and probably I will buy the game in wiiware.
December 10th, 2008 at 10:44 am
@pontfx: our retail publisher is selling the game for 20 euros and we can not undercut them by selling the game for less online. that is the reason for the 20 euro price point.
@nicky: there are no differences between the US and EU versions. i will contact our publisher and ask them if they can make the game available on amazon.co.uk as well.
@michael: we’ll get to the linux version as soon as we can. it might take a little while but it will happen, that’s a 2d promise.
@gal: im yesh wiiware ba’aretz az kanire she ken.
@DtD: yeah, have one unified global launch and sell the game at the same price everywhere. because of decisions we made earlier on we weren’t able to do it this time around, but that’s what we’ll shoot for in the future.

@ Ron,
Many thanks for your quick response and positive answer!
December 10th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Just curious as to when World of Goo will appear in Australia on Wii Ware. Thanks.
December 11th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Yuhuu!
December 11th, 2008 at 5:12 am
I will be traveling the burnt streets of Athens this evening to get this game in its boxed version. Wish me luck brothers.
December 11th, 2008 at 7:10 am
@Ron, toda al ha-teshuva. :)
December 11th, 2008 at 7:57 am
20 euro is way over 20$…you distributor should reconsider…..
December 11th, 2008 at 10:00 am
So, I was just wondering, when exactly is it going to be up on Steam? I’m getting quite antsy.
December 11th, 2008 at 11:22 am
It’s the 11′th and it’s still not on steam!
Also I was wondering if I buy the boxed version will I be able to activate it on steam?
December 11th, 2008 at 11:27 am
Yeah! Hope it’s coming to Norway. And 20 euro isn’t much for this game!
December 11th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
matt, ion, i just emailed valve and asked them to look into this.
December 12th, 2008 at 3:56 am
Bought it on steam :D thank you.

Nice, but at least as far as the PC version goes I wonder if there’s really a need to go through the effort of “officially” releasing games on various continents; considering that a downloadable version can be bought from anywhere on the globe anyway. Hasn’t the whole idea of regional releases lost its’ point (especially for indie developers such as 2D Boy, who obviously can’t afford to spend too much time on money on things unrelated to the actual game developing process)?
December 12th, 2008 at 11:59 am
I joined the vultures in Woolworths yesterday to get a reduced 2000 Wii points card – 10% off the usual price. WOG is 1500 points, meaning I get it for approximately £10.12 when it’s on WiiWare – RESULT!
December 12th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Didn’t see the release in shops in the Netherlands yet. I hope it will come soon out there… :)
December 12th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
thats nice. I’m sad now though cuz I’m done with the game and I loved the story but its done :(. Time to get as many OCD as i can.
December 13th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Hello,
I’ve got three questions concerning the German (Euro?) retail edition of WoG:
- Did the publisher (RTL Games) add a copy protection?
- Is the game multi-language or just translated and playable in German?
- Is there a sixth chapter?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the great game! I want to buy it for a person who is dear to me – it will be a great New Year’s present. The platform in question is Wii.
The person lives in another country, I haven’t seen the Wii itself and I never interacted with this platform. I have no idea what Wiipoints are.
My question is how can I buy World of goo for the Wii for someone in a different geographical area, make sure they get an English version (regardless of their location) and that they receive it in a box? (last item is optional).
I am afraid that Wiipoints are something that you can only gain if you have a Wii – that’s my problem, I don’t own one.
P.S. for everyone waiting for a Linux version, I’m playing it on Linux using wine – everything works great.
December 16th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Any news on the release of the European Wiiware version? I’d really like to buy it, so we can play it during the holidays :)
December 16th, 2008 at 5:25 am
Aaaaiiiik!
Today I found World of Goo in the MediaMarkt in Germany! I was very happy, studied it and – found a ‘copy protection’ warning.
Copy Protection? Sure, it wouldn’t have an effect on me (already bought the downloadable version), but… I did want this in my shelf, just in case… but… but… copy protection?
Sure, you’re in vacation. But please let us know what’s going on when you’re back?
And has anybody else bought this in Germany? Is there really a copy protection here, or is this the usual garbage from the distributor?
December 16th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
What happened to the promised MOON LEVEL? :)
I love you guys! Congrats on winning the Spike VGAs.
December 16th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
U know what? I just bought your game because of 2 reasons:
1) vergy good Gamestar rating (84%)!!!
2) no copy protection
Keep on your work!
December 17th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Way to go, 2D Boy!
Its what I wanted and hoped for, finally you make sense.
But one more thing. I have a Wii and a PC running Linux. Do I have to buy two copies?
December 23rd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Aleluia… perhaps i could buy a french box version in a few… come in france in february :(((
