Heh, I remember when I saw that game as a concept; same website where I found Tower Of Goo months before World Of Goo was announced.
Looking good, remember Crayon Physics forcing any shapes to revert into pre-made shapes (boxes, rectangles, spheres, ect. Offered no creativity). The video of the game clearly shows custom shapes can be created; huge improvement imo
Probably won’t be as fun as World Of Goo, but hey. Most games aren’t.

There’s a similar game that is just as fun as Crayon Physics (if not better). It’s called Phun, and you can download it free at its website, http://www.phunland.com/

perhaps you can suggest to them some website improvements. I spent 5 minutes and couldn’t figure out if there’s an OSX port, or what gameplay would be like if I didn’t have a tablet.

Make better than this

I played a flash game called “Magic Pen” and it looked very similar to this. I hope this isn’t only something like a copy of it. It has to be more original.

petri wrote the original crayon physics a few years ago and then decided to develop it into a full game. magic pen is a copy of crayon physics, and there are a couple of other copies as well.

@Hah: You’re absolutely right, my personal opinion (having played the game quite a lot) is that Crayon Physics Deluxe is no where near as fun as World of Goo.
@Rama: Thanks for pointing that out. It’s great to get some kind of feedback from someone who doesn’t know what the game is all about. Opens my eyes on what kinda information I have to provide on the site (I’m working on the about page). If you don’t have a tablet PC you can play the game perfectly fine with a regular mouse. It’s actually the way it’s meant to be played. And unfortunately there’s no OSX version in the works at the moment. I’ll try to do one after I get the game out.
@Ron: Thanks for posting about the game!

petri, i think most judges at the IGF last year disagreed with your assessment of the world of goo / crayon physics comparison :)

Already bought.
It looks great!

Mr. Purho, will Mac users get the same opportunity to preorder and get a discount when you start working on that version? Five bucks isn’t a huge deal to me, and I’ll just be happy to see a Mac version, but I’m still a bit curious.
November 11th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
@ ron: That explains all. But they have to offer in a retail version more gameplay than you can find in the free flash games. Otherwise there would be no reason to buy it for the most gamers.
Anyway, I’ll pre-order it today. This isn’t much money and the game looks promising =)

@Chris: That’s a though one. There probably won’t be a five bucks pre-order discount for the Mac / Linux version. I know it sucks, but I don’t any other way to do it, because I want to provide the Mac and Linux versions free for those who have already bought the game (I’m doing exactly the same thing here what Kyle & Ron did with World of Goo).
That said I wouldn’t count on Mac and Linux versions ever being released. I haven’t started the porting work and I think it’s going to take a while to get it done. And in the worst case it might not ever happen.

@petri: hey but you use so much platform-independent libraries (like XML, SDL or Box2D), do you think it will be so hard to port?
November 11th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
@Simon
There will be over 70 levels and a level editor. I have played many many Crayon Physics clones and I do not think any will come close to Crayon Physics Deluxe. The closest so far has been Pocket Physics for the DS which is solely based on creating not playing.
I am not a fan of Phun because it is solely a sandbox like Pocket Physics so no true objective. I get bored of those kinds of games quickly.
My tx2500z is going to be very happy when this game is released.

@ Josh: pre-ordering today 8-)
*maybe tomorrow, because i has to work long hours today…*

@petri : can you test your game in wine for linux? if it works i’ll probably buy it!
I’ve played the whole world of goo in wine and it works almost perfectly (some little bugs and no internet connection) … i’ve enjoyed and finished the whole game!
Thanks in advance!
@ron : 2dboy has made a great game! i loved it!
@user000299174 : i’m angry with you.

How can you guys suggest other similar game!!?!? Crayon Physics is the ORIGINAL, and games like Phun and Magic Pen are pathetic attempts to copy it. Crayon Physics Deluxe will be better than any game out there like it, and I feel it will have more value than WoG (because it is only $15 right now)
November 12th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Any plans to create a Mac port?
November 12th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
I’m glad Deluxe will allow more freeform shapes, but I also hope it will handle larger shapes more smoothly than the original version. That said, I preordered the game, and I’m really looking forward to it.
Long live indie games! :)
