Pre-Ordering Ends Tonight, Hello, Automated Mail Bot
Today, Automated Mail Bot begins sending thank you mails to everyone who pre-ordered World of Goo, with a link to download the full version.
Automated Mail Bot will consider a “pre-order” anyone who orders before Monday, October 6, 11:59pm Pacific Time Zone, or whatever this magic clock says. If you miss the pre-order deadline, the game will be properly released in one week - Monday, October 13, on both PC and WiiWare.
Also, the second trailer has been updated with some new footage below. Thanks from both of us to everyone who pre-ordered, and kept us going these last few months - we’re a week away and it can’t come soon enough…

October 5th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Cmon Mail-Bot, pick me first! :P
October 5th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Pick me in the first group. PLEASE! :P
And thanks 2dboy for a great game!
October 5th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
So quick question for my friends when I point them to the website does pre-ordering end Monday night or Sunday night?
October 5th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
do want email :D
October 5th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Yeah, 12:59PM is right before 1PM on Monday afternoon, isn’t it?
Either way, good luck with all the emailing, Kyle and Ron. Too bad there wasn’t a way to allow people to go to the site and enter their secret key to get the full version. Oh well, I’m sure there are reasons for things being the way they are…
Between WoG and Portal Prelude ( http://www.portalprelude.com ) being released, this week is going to be awesome.
October 5th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Can you share the stats on how many emails the bot can send, and how many have pre-order, or is that confidential information and I’ll just have to wait patiently like everyone else?
October 5th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Has anyone received an email yet?
October 5th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
“Automated Mail Bot will consider a “pre-order” anyone who orders before Monday, October 6, 11:59pm Pacific Time Zone” - Does this mean that in effect the emails wont start coming until Oct 7 00:00? Or wil the emails start trinkling while the pre-order is still possible? Because right now it’s Monday 6th, 00:47.
October 5th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
World of Goo Being Released October 6 For Pre-Orders…
2dboy has announced that their Automated Mail Bot is already sending mails to everyone who pre-ordered World of Goo, with a link to download the full version.
“Automated Mail Bot will consider a “pre-order” anyone who orders before Monday, Octo…
October 6th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Where is my LINK!?
October 6th, 2008 at 12:42 am
I’m glad to finally see this being released, been looking forward for it a very long time now! Anyway, as for the download-links, wouldn’t it be easy to just update the old “chapter1″-pages with a link to the full download as well? I’m guessing a lot of the twitchy pre-orderers would appreciate that. ;)
October 6th, 2008 at 1:01 am
@Wandel:
Kyle said in the forum:
“Mails will start going out Monday morning, PST. They will be sent in the order in which the orders were received. I just hope our mail server doesn’t break down like it did last time!”
October 6th, 2008 at 1:03 am
Now we have the question: “What time is morning? Is that from midnight onwards or from 6am?” :S
Either way I preordered faily early on so it should be too long now.
October 6th, 2008 at 2:24 am
I’m currently checking my E-mail every few minutes, which is silly, seeing as I’m at work and all. It was a good while ago I pre-ordered now, so hopefully I’ll get the code some time today, otherwise my productivity is going to be terrible. That said, it may be less of a dent on my productivity than the game itself.
October 6th, 2008 at 2:33 am
i preordered early on too, but my email somehow wasnt added to the mailbot when the preview was released so i didnt get it until after i sent an email asking for it.
hope that’s been rectified *fingers crossed*
October 6th, 2008 at 2:45 am
I’d be interested to know how long it’s estimated to take to get to the end of the list (where I am!) Days?
October 6th, 2008 at 2:47 am
It will be limited to im guessing a few hundred every hour maybe. And it’s anyones guess how many people have preordered. I’d guess it would be done by the end of the day depending on the amount of people and the hourly limit. Just gotta be patient I guess.
October 6th, 2008 at 2:47 am
Ahhh, You hsould have chosen GMT! *shakes fist*
Damn american time makes you wait 7 more hours >_>
October 6th, 2008 at 3:12 am
Has anyone received any email?
October 6th, 2008 at 3:17 am
Nothing for me :(
October 6th, 2008 at 3:35 am
No email yet, and it’s actually 50 emails an hour
October 6th, 2008 at 3:53 am
Then hope less than 8400 pre-ordered it so far :P
October 6th, 2008 at 4:40 am
Ah right I wasnt sure how amny it would be but 100 sound about right. 50 isnt so bad i guess as long as you’re in the top 300 or so :P
October 6th, 2008 at 4:58 am
Why not use another SMTP server (e.g. google’s)? You can buy an email account for next to nothing…
October 6th, 2008 at 5:00 am
No idea. Guess this is just the easist way for them to do it. Ah well shouldn’t be too long now :)
October 6th, 2008 at 5:00 am
So what can be considered “pre-ordered early”? I placed my order March 12th (and haven’t gotten an email yet). I hope I get an email before going to bed tonight, so I can get a little bit of playing done. :)
By the way, congratulations on getting everything done for the main release 2D Boy. I love you 2D Boy!
October 6th, 2008 at 5:08 am
i want my email too! main problem here is that i have 5 email boxes, so basicaly i’m hiting F5 in each one every hour or so…. the waiting never hurted so much…
October 6th, 2008 at 5:27 am
Not mail yet.
Preordered on February 21st.
October 6th, 2008 at 5:45 am
December 29st, real early. No email here too.
October 6th, 2008 at 5:46 am
The waiting drives me crazy… (and the fear that my provider’s antispam blocks it… ;))
October 6th, 2008 at 5:57 am
I think we can safly say that the autobot email hasn’t had his morning wake up call yet.
Can’t wait to play some Goo–dness (finally the wait is over) we love you 2d boy! :D
October 6th, 2008 at 6:10 am
Early January, no email here either, and no new spam either, for once I would appretiate some spam,
“Goo and spam makes a good jam!”
October 6th, 2008 at 6:27 am
Just noticed I preordered in January… so I hope I’m early in the list :D
October 6th, 2008 at 6:52 am
Oh, if ordering goes back to December, and those mails haven’t been sent yet, I guess I’ll have to wait a little bit longer. I’ll be happy if I get it before tomorrow evening (European time). :)
October 6th, 2008 at 6:53 am
I cant find the exact date i got it but it think it was some time in March this year :S No email yet
October 6th, 2008 at 7:22 am
I have a good idea. The preview link was in this format: http://www.worldofgoo.com/dl.php?lk=put magic key here without brackets] .
Could someone who got an email pretty please post a link layout for the full? (If applicable, of course. If it’s a whole different system then it won’t work.)
PS: Don’t forget to remove your MK from the link.
October 6th, 2008 at 8:05 am
That still links to the Chapter 1 Preview for me.
October 6th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Or… they could jsut post the link themselfs and write “add your key here”…
October 6th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Indeed, that’s fine too.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:36 am
They’re being sent out because I just got mine :)
October 6th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Can Ron or Kyle give some updates on what’s going on ATM? I haven’t seen anyone with a mail, you guys sure the bot works?
October 6th, 2008 at 10:40 am
@ Tom Brouws: I think all people with the ful version are very happy and are playing from now until… uhh… forever. We’ll never have a conformation that anyone got the full version ;-)
October 6th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Automated Mail Bot is going! He’s sending out about 160 per hour, in the order the pre-orders were received. If he doesn’t break at that rate, I’ll turn him up to go faster. When you get the mail, let us know if it works for you!
October 6th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Thanks for the update, Kyle. :D
October 6th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Thanks for the heads-up Kyle! From which date were preorders available from the site? I want to have a general idea of how long I have to wait & how high I am in the list. Purchased the 29th of December as listed above.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Oh, and no possibility of a magic key prompt page through which we get a gooey download link?
October 6th, 2008 at 10:47 am
I just got my email (preordered December 7th)! I love you 2dboy!
@Tom Brouws: The new link is dl2.php instead of dl.php.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:48 am
@Max - Aww, doesn’t work, he gives me the preview file :(
October 6th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Yep, the secret link for downloading is the same as the preview download link, but make it dl2.php instead of dl.php. I’m afraid of killing our server, so please don’t spread this little trick too widely, ok? :)
October 6th, 2008 at 10:49 am
March 1st… can’t be too long now… :x
October 6th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Max, sadly that doesnt work for me. still links to the preview.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Oh, so it is supposed to work? Doesn’t work for me, the bot says “Hey I have a nice preview for you but there are no other files in the download directory. Bug maybe?
October 6th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Doesn’t work for me either. I too get the Chapter 1 preview after changing to dl2.php.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Oh right - the download link hack won’t work. Automated Mail Bot has to get to you convert you to the full version. I’ll whip up a little script, one minute…
October 6th, 2008 at 10:53 am
The tension…! :@
October 6th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Lol, bot just send me gooey email :)
October 6th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Thanks 2D Boys, downloading now, 80%….
October 6th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Unbearable.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Working like a charm! :) Thanks again, and now let me retreat in my Gooey palace
October 6th, 2008 at 11:07 am
“Your email will come soon. Your friend, Automated Mail Bot”
I assume that means ‘Stop being impatient and wait a few days!’ :(
October 6th, 2008 at 11:08 am
What a cruel and vicious script. ;_;
October 6th, 2008 at 11:09 am
want want want want want…
i preordered in march, anyone know what date we’re up to yet?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:09 am
lol @ bot :D
# The waiting is the hardest part #
October 6th, 2008 at 11:10 am
At least late december. I preordered in march too. >.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:12 am
…160 per hour? surely you can crank that up just a lil bit more kyle, maybe 200? :D
October 6th, 2008 at 11:13 am
*Prays for the mailbot to hurry up!!*
October 6th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Cool, my link has arrived! Downloading…
[ Link format is of the form:
http://www.worldofgoo.com/dl2.php?lk=YOUR_KEY_GOES_HERE
... the link that's shown will change when the mail is sent out. Don't hammer the server too much by hitting reload! ]
(The download is going fast… seem to be averaging about 600KB/sec. Nice one, chaps!)
October 6th, 2008 at 11:14 am
No dont crank it up, if it breaks it’ll take forever to get it going again.
Dang, I feel like a kid on the night before christmas again. THANKS 2D Boy, I really DO love you.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Yes. I for one move that Tair’s advice be disregarded. :P
October 6th, 2008 at 11:18 am

October 6th, 2008 at 11:19 am
For people who have gotten it so far - Is installation going ok? Is the game destroying your computer?
October 6th, 2008 at 11:20 am
It runs smoothly on my computer….its SO BEAUTIFUL :)
October 6th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Yep, works good
October 6th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Tom, I am SO jealous right now!
Kyle, how far through the list (chronologically) do you think the bot will get tonight? I’m torn between waiting for a gooey email and heading next door and cracking open a bottle of red…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Everyone… Lets go to Tom’s house :-D
October 6th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Hey Kyle,
It’s running very nicely indeed. :-D
October 6th, 2008 at 11:31 am
OMG I got it, goodbye:D
October 6th, 2008 at 11:32 am
yes, yes, YES! got mine!
October 6th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Please - if you got it, report your pre-order date…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:34 am
February 29th order: No e-mail yet.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Hey, who are those people at my door? What are they doing with the big pointy sti….. ARGH!!!!!!!! ……………………. *silence*
October 6th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Hey, also, anybody from 2dboy, is there someplace I can get a small banner to put up on my site? Ideally about 170 pixels wide, but I’m sure I could crop it to that.
I ask because I adore indie games, and I figure that with about 2000 hits per day maybe I can get you guys a few more orders. I wouldn’t expect more than 4 or 5, but still, that’s something.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:44 am
I GOT MINE!!!!
Preordered in January, late january
October 6th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Woo, just reached the levels beyond the preview & beta!
October 6th, 2008 at 11:51 am
That is bad… It means that I will get my mail hour after going to bed. Aaaagh! And tomorrow at work… :/ :D
October 6th, 2008 at 11:52 am
To both Ron and Kyle, congratulations on getting everything together and out the door!
I just got the Autobot email now (hmm…Transformers sounds like a good movie to watch all of a sudden while it downloads :P) and I want to say thank you and best of luck in your future projects!
For other who haven’t gotten the email, I pre-ordered January 20th, so I hope that helps.
@Ron, my friend Miles and me had met up with you at GDC back in February for the IGF Awards to interview you for advice and insight on what it’s like to be a game developer to take back to school with us and share with other students within our degree. I’m not sure if Miles has been in touch or not, but I want both you and Kyle to know that we got a lot of very valuable information, and drummed up a _ton_ of interest in GDC and IGF as a whole. It was a huge success, so much so that we’ll be heading back next year!
Hope to see you there with another great game, and once again, best of luck!
October 6th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
A movie while downloading? Doesn’t seem like a good choice to me, download was done in 5 mins :)
October 6th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
cranking up Automated Mail Bot to 240 per hour…
October 6th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Heres hoping the mailbot handles the pressure :P
October 6th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Also, sorry to spam the comment board, but looking through the forums I couldn’t find the best place to put it either so here goes:
As a general question, is anyone else having issues with the download speeds? I’m only getting 5kbps and can’t tell if it’s on my end or 2DBoy’s :-\
I’m sure you guys are getting SLAMMED right about now, but my internet has been rather wonky as of late, so it could be my end just the same *Shrug*
Just glad it’s working at all :-)
October 6th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Don’t worry, that’s one well-trained monkey.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
The download speed is terrible for me, it’s been nearly an hour and it’s at 58%. It’s not my connection either.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
@Paul, yeah I’m in the same boat… 34% done with ~2 hours remaining
…looks like I’ll be able to get that movie in after all! ;-)
October 6th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Woohoo!! got my mail, but yeah speeds are terrible here too, still, not entirely surprised lol!
October 6th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
@Chris Grenard: http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/6613/worldofgoobanner2ub1.png
October 6th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
I has 300 KBps, but maybe that’s because I got the mail real early.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Had*
And BTW, that’s not my usual speed. Normally I get around 700 KBps. Also, I’ve had this kind of slow-down before with other games that were released for a short time.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Thanks Jack, I’ll put that up on my site tonight!
Also, for updates, nothing yet for Fed 29th.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
@Tom, yeah, then it sounds like the site is just getting hit really hard - and I wish I could get 300kbps _ever!_ I’m on a 1.5mbps DSL line here….it’s….it’s a joke >_
October 6th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Looks like the download site is down for me. I can’t connect to the server.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
So what month are we up to now? :/
October 6th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
@FunkyLlama
The timestamp from my email is 2.24 pm CST in the US.. (quick reference seeing that you’re overseas, I’m -5:00 UTC) and I pre-ordered January 20th…that’s all I’ve got, mate :-\
October 6th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
I guess start of February, at this rate.
@ Zack, Oww, I had a connection like that 2 years ago. I can remember it being…. painful. Lucky for me I’m now on a 10mbps line, and will be switching to 20 in the next year, when my ISP upgrades their bandwidth.
(Transfer-limit free connection, by the way.)
October 6th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
I got the link 20 minutes ago and I ordered mid-February. I now got the download link, but I’m having trouble starting the download. Hopefully my download manager will be able to connect soon.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
50MBit line… no matters, no mail… no goo, no life… :D
October 6th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Luckily for us all downloads go through worldofgoo.com and not 2dBoy.com, otherwise the site would be so slow we won’t even be able to post & read comments.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Gah, the anticipation is killing me. I preordered pretty recently after seeing Rock Paper Shotgun’s amazing review, and just that bit of Chapter 1 was pure awesome.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I just got my link! Ordered on Feb. 18th.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
@Zack
Ah, thanks. Heh, I was about to say, ‘how did you know I was overseas?’ :P
Also… I’m on what is allegedly an 8Mbit line that performs the same as a 1.5Mbit line. I feel your suffering.
October 6th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
seems lots of people are downloading it cos my downlad speed is terrible (7 KB/s) when usually I get 700 KB/s
October 6th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Got my Key , i pre-ordered @ 15 februari
As expected the speed is slow :) (2.9 KB/s)
October 6th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
mine’s grown to 8.5
It’s good to see that the installer is so small otherwise I’d probably be pissed :p
October 6th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Woo. I got my mail. I love you guys!
October 6th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
My connection dropped, and I started over and it’s looking at 7 hours. Why are e-mails still going out? The server is just going to crash soon if this keeps up.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Hmm, I think the Email Monkey is overdoing it, judging by people’s reports of their download speeds here.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Got mine too, preordered around valentine’s day, speed climbing up to around 10kb/s.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
I know people want to know the date we’ve reached so far, so:
I got my email exactly 1 minute ago, and I pre-ordered Feb 23rd
Hehehe, I can’t wait for the download to finish…
October 6th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Got my e-mail!!! I pre-ordered on February 23rd! Got about 15 KB/sec…
October 6th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
I pre-ordered it on August 25th :(
long way to go, and perhaps some nice time tomorrow.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
25th feb, email just appeared
October 6th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Yep, 1kbps here. Groan.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Outstanding! Hammering the server! WOOOO GOOOOO!!!!
Thanks a lot guys, you all deserve all kinds of presents.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
One month to go for me!!!!
October 6th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
A few days to go for me. :D
October 6th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
I own some servers (http://www.e-devblog.com, protocteur.free.fr, jewel-rama.co.uk (My job :p) ..) don’t you think it’s a good idea to create some mirrors ? (with servers of peoples here, or with sites like rapidshare ?) in fact if the game is protected by magic key’s, is there some problems to share the game ? (sorry for my english :p)
October 6th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
8 months for me :( should have preordered earlier rather than waiting for a Steam version :(
October 6th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
@Vael
That is probably a very good idea. And I don’t think that magic keys will pose a problem. Can anyone confirm?
October 6th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
[...] hands on my copy of World of Goo just over two hours ago. Two hours well spent in aforementioned land of thick, viscous matter. It’s a great game, every level so lovingly crafted. Go Preorder it Buy it Give them money [...]
October 6th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Less than a week to go! Although given the reports of the download speeds it may end up taking that long real-time. Oh well, it’ll be worth it.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Is anyone getting theirs still? I think the mail bot may have stalled. It’s taken nearly an hour to advance a week.
October 6th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
I’m still waiting. I pre-ordered March 1st. Can’t… contain… excitement…
October 6th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
what’s happening kyle-san?
October 6th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Ooh, it’s changed: “Automated Download Bot is serving all the downloads he can right now. Check back in a few minutes. But please don’t refresh this page constantly, it will make Automated Download Bot slower for everyone.”
October 6th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
oh maaaaaaaan >.
October 6th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
I think I’ll just end up going to bed and getting mah goo in the morning. ;_;
October 6th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
i hope the autobot is still running, i’m quite willing to wait up all night for this game!
October 6th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
I ordererd April. Still no Mail…*snif*
October 6th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
“Automated Download Bot is serving all the downloads he can right now. Check back in a few minutes. But please don’t refresh this page constantly, it will make Automated Download Bot slower for everyone.”
I’ve got that too… Is it a first come first served type of deal where I need to be lucky and refresh right when it opens up before someone else or did it put me in a queue…
If it did put me in a queue that would go a long way to stopping me from refreshing it.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Ok got in… 3.4kbps going up by 0.4 and then down 1kbps regularly…
So yeah 8 more hours!
October 6th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Ordered 3/3/08… still have not gotten the email - CURSE YOU EMAIL BOT!
October 6th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Preordered mine on the 15th of April; still no email yet, but waiting patiently nevertheless. Not gonna hammer Download Bot, though. :)
October 6th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
I just got the email. March 1st pre-order.
October 6th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Lol, I’ve finished the game and got 1st in world of goo corporation(quite easy if you’re almost the only one:D).
btw. I loved the game, it really is amazing, I want more, now!
October 6th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
It took almost an hour to get the download once I got the notice, but I’m getting 130 kb/ s

@Dodomaster: curse you.
Waits…
October 6th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Automated Download Bot is serving all the downloads he can right now, and that makes me sad.
October 6th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
And the download just messed up and my download manager can’t restart it….
October 6th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
awww.. comon… where’s my email ? march 3rd ordered…?
October 6th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Using the dl2 trick gave me “Your email will come soon. Automated Download Bot”. I laughed.
October 6th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
@Hideous: Yeah just got the same thing. Brought a smile to my impatient face :)
October 6th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Which day in March are we at now? Because mine’s at March 20th
October 6th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Seven hours (4 KB/s) and all I get is “Installer integrity check has failed”. Insert sorrowful cry here.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Sigh, I’m April 2nd, but we seem to be stuck in March, so I’m ready to give up for the night.
I’m disapp0ointed, I wanted to play tonight :(
October 6th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
march 3rd here… still nothing…. 2:40 am est….
October 6th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Mine was march 1st, and I got the link three hours ago. It’s certainly taking its time…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
mrfredman - poor you. I wake up and no mail… So I’m going to work. Pre-ordered on March 9.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Well considering march the first has it but it’s not yet up to march 9 or 10(I’m 10) must at least be good news on the number of people who bought it.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:14 am
Even in my absolute despair, I feel the love of 2D Boy:
“Automated Download Bot is serving all the downloads he can right now. Check back in a few minutes. But please don’t refresh this page constantly, Automated Download Bot knows who’s doing it, and that can’t be good.”
October 7th, 2008 at 12:28 am
to quote the beastie boys…
NO…. SLEEP…. TILL DOWNLOAD….
October 7th, 2008 at 12:40 am
For people who are wondering where we are:
March 26 here, haven’t had a mail yet.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:48 am
I have to revise my ordering date, I got confused with US/normal date formats. I ordered the 3rd of December, not the 12th of March. And I got my email 14 hours ago.
I hope you guys who are waiting get your mails soon, just remember that good things are worth waiting for.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:55 am
I ordered on the 8th of March and I’ve not got anything yet either. I feel sorry for people who ordered this week ¬_¬
October 7th, 2008 at 1:40 am
sniff sniff. i want it now 2dboy, give me my toy ! plizzzzz
October 7th, 2008 at 2:09 am
3rd of March and I’ve gotten mine now however this was a heavy pre-order time due to penny arcade
October 7th, 2008 at 2:28 am
“Estimated time remaining: 17 hours”
Guys, you were doing so well up until now. Why ruin it with amateurish sysadmin skills bordering on the laughable?
For the love of god, find a distribution mechanism that can cope, and stop emailing people in the meantime!
October 7th, 2008 at 2:55 am
Meh, I ordered over the weekend. No chance of me getting it anytime soon when people as far back as April are still waiting. Not complaining. First come, first served is the fair way to do it, I suppose.
October 7th, 2008 at 3:29 am
I have to agree with Martin. Why is it so hard to find a distribution network that can cope? You can buy webhosting for peanuts, or use something like Amazon’s cloud. The cost is peanuts… I mean, as there’s no DRM, you could just stick up a torrent of it at no cost (as could anyone else who’s downloaded it)…
October 7th, 2008 at 3:41 am
Im wondering again and again.. nobody uses Torrenttechnology to spread their fresh released (game) Files. Why?
Apple made the same failure releasing their OS2.0 Update, 2 days of horrible Server overload.
October 7th, 2008 at 3:56 am
Try downloading again - it is now attempting to load balance across 4 mirrors.
Thanks for the suggestions. I think we were caught by surprise that there was so much interest in our game. Not that that’s a bad thing - but we are not sys admins by any means. Let us know if it works better now!
October 7th, 2008 at 4:15 am
Mirrors are good. Use rapidshare.com and of course torrents. If there is some kind of basic protection (”magic number”) then when why not use uhm… well-tested technology :D
October 7th, 2008 at 6:57 am
@DiGi - Not possible, the game is not protected by a key and is DRM-free. So if you upload it to a torrent site it’s up for everyone to grab.
October 7th, 2008 at 8:19 am
@Tom - A secret torrent on a private tracker would provide no less protection than a secred download link.
October 7th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Interesting…I fired up the preview a few minutes ago and it prompted me to download an available update. Clicking “OK” did nothing, though.
October 7th, 2008 at 8:53 am
WOOT! Got my message and downloaded the game. Need to go home to play though. I can not wait. My kid has been asking about playing for a while. He LOVES the game. Congrats!!!
October 7th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Hmmm… I have preordered March 20th, and I still got nothing… Do I have a problem, or are we still somewhere in March?
October 7th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Hoooray, March 9 is completed… Downloaded (62,2MB) and starting…
October 7th, 2008 at 9:54 am
You know ? If you don’t have DRM on the download. Put it in mininova so we could have it. It s better for us and doesn’t change anything for you. You’ re on top ! You’ve already done it ! Made me pay for a soft, gratz 2dboy ! think about it.
October 7th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Preordered on 11 March, my email arrived around half an hour ago.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Whilst I dont agree with Fantasio’s “nuclear” option for solving the problem, this delay is really starting to test my patience.
The Mail bot seems to have been stuck on March for the better part of a day now. At this rate I won’t be getting my June preorder till after the normal release date.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:18 am
For those trying to figure out the timing… ordered march 3rd, got the email 8:00 am EST…. good luck!
October 7th, 2008 at 11:23 am
One important question.
I had pre-ordered the game twice. One for me and one for a friend birthday with the same paypal account. I have receieved one pre-order bot message. Do I have to wait for a second mail to give the download link to my friend ? My little finger tells me yes…
October 7th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Emmanuel : I asked Kyle about this at the weekend as i had to order it for my brother.
Yes you will get a 2nd email but as there’s a 7month gap between my 2 orders i’m probably just going to send it over IM to him, it’ll save 2dboy the bandwidth and save my brother the wait.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
I Pre-Ordered the game yesterday upon reading highly positive things on several sites. I played the demo and loved it, but now I really, really want the full version.
Sadly, it doesn’t seem like my e-mail will be coming anytime soon. That sucks because my goal in pre-ordering was to get the game early. I tried the url trick listed above (where you put a 2 after the “dl”, but it came back saying I have an invalid Key.
The key I used is the same one sent to me in the e-mail. Anyone know what’s going on?
October 7th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Vincent, the e-mail bot can only serve up 260 an hour, and even then the download locations are being pushed to the breaking point. Many people who preordered months ago still haven’t gotten their e-mails yet; have patience. :)
October 7th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Hooary! Just received my email… unfortunately I’ll have to wait till later till I download it.
October 7th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Awesome! It came for my birthday! (today) Thanks Kyle and Ron for all your hard work- what a great present! :)
For those of you tracking the email bot’s progress, I ordered August 20 and received my email at 5:10pm PST. Noticing it’s coming from experimentalgameplay.com- thanks Kyle and Ron for getting those mirrors going- downloading at 175KB/s is far better than the speeds people were reporting yesterday.
October 7th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
I’m downloading at 14kbs-30kb/s from WOG. Almost there…
October 7th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
I just got my e-mail, preordered last thursday. Download speed is excellent now, pulling 700 kB/s
October 7th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
YIHaaaaaa !!! Long life to you guys !
October 7th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
I ordered on the 24th of March and I’ve got e-mail 9 ours ago )
October 7th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Hurrah! Ordered it last weekend, and just got my link, AND it’s downloading nice and quickly.
Either I’m a glitch in the monkey in an office, or you’ve managed to vastly increase his output. Did you spike his bananas?
I’m glad to see your expectations for interest have been massively exceeded, from the love you’ve put into the game, you deserve it!
Download finished! *Makes unintelligible squeaky noise*
