Holy Penny Arcade!

tycho.jpgTycho of Penny Arcade wrote some nice things about World of Goo (thanks Tycho!) and we got an influx of pre-orders, which is fantastic, except that for each pre-order we sent a confirmation email with download instructions and our hosting provider seems to have mistaken us for a spammer. We’re working to fix this, so if you haven’t received your confirmation email yet, please be patient, you shall have it soon, we promise. A big thank you to everyone who pre-ordered!!!

[Update: We have restored our dignity with our hosting provider and everyone who pre-ordered should have gotten a confirmation email from us. If you pre-ordered and haven’t, let me know. If you paid with an e-check it takes a few days to clear, which means the confirmation will be delayed. – Ron]

Hooray! Great to hear things are going so well!

  2. Tycho Says:

It was my intense pleasure to do so! I wish you guys the best.

How does it play on the Wii? :)

  3. Ron Carmel Says:

Plays very nicely! The wiimote is not as precise as the mouse but picking up balls and dragging them around with it makes the experience more visceral and satisfying. I expect that adding vibration feedback for ball selection will make it feel even better.

  4. Tycho Says:

Ooh, I hadn’t considered the tactile element.

I’m actually having some trouble installing it… The installer is corrupted, apparently, and says there’s an NSIS error, even after a few attempts at downloading. Anyone else had this problem?

  6. Kyle Gabler Says:

We have had a few people with that installer nsis message. Here are some things to know:

-I just modified the download script. See if it works now?

-The md5 of the installer file is 317314c5687250db35fcc0108c035e7a (I used this to get the md5 http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/winmd5sum_portable) See if yours matches?

-If it still doesn’t work, yell at us on the contact page, and we’ll work something out :)

Just wanted to say I pre-ordered, and you’ve got Tycho to thank for reminding me about this game.

This is by far the most awesome independent game I’ve played in a while. Here’s me thinking audiosurf had taken the cake.

Love the artwork, love the music, love the game play, can’t wait for the profanity pack. :D

Can’t wait to get my hands on the real thing.

  9. Ross Anderson Says:

Played through the first chapter after seeing it on Penny Arcade & pre-ordering it, must say I’m very much looking forward to seeing the full thing! Love the indie games coming out at the moment, Audiosurf is very addictive too, and Patapon!… I’m waving goodbye my degree…

I just finished world #1 — great game!

Only one little bug report. It started in full screen mode OK. I alt-entered to window the game, and was unable to return to fullscreen mode (screen flickers, and then minimizes to the task bar; repeat). Uninstalling didn’t fix. I was able to catch it during the flickering and alt-enter again to return to windowed mode.

  11. Dodomaster Says:

Yesterday I got a message(when I started WoG): Update available, Download now.
I clicked yes and the game crashed. The message doesn’t appear anymore. Why did I get it?

  12. RichVR Says:

Found Goo via Penny Arcade and pre-ordered instantly. Great game. Bravo!

  13. Dustin Says:

I love this game. I really have to hold back my analytical mind from prying apart the physics that underpins it all, and just to enjoy the tactile, instinctive nature of the goo.

If you released it on Steam you wouldn’t have to deal with these issues…

Insanely fun game – that keeps the grey-matter active. From a dad who likes to play games with his kids – one thing you might consider is a mode where a second Wiimote can be used (like SuperMario World) – so an adult (or second player) can help with the game.

The target demographic for computer games is increasingly going to be Dads with young kids. I’m sure that’s a market worth owning.

  15. Tinus Says:

Preordered a while ago. The preview build was an excellent taster, now I’m hungry for more! Most fun I’ve had with any game for quite a while.

  16. twincannon Says:

Grabbed the preorder today finally, was going to wait for it to come out but I was craving some goo. Had a blast, can’t wait to play the full game!

  17. Ron Carmel Says:

Rich, you’re gonna love the Wii version… co-op multiplayer for you and your kids!

  18. The Happy Friar Says:

the wii one has co-op? Damn! I would love that one! :D

  19. Matt Says:

I tracked down my “full screen” issue above to my recent installation of Folding@home after noticing TF2 was doing the same thing. Closing out of Folding@home allowed the full screen option to work perfectly.

  20. Blueskied Games Says:

Can’t wait to play, just love physics-puzzle games.

  21. Ron Carmel Says:

thanks for posting the solution, matt!

Hey guys, would like to say that pre-ordering this might have been the best move i ever made in my life :-) i have never been so satisfied with a puzzle game, it may not be as technical as pontifex etc, but the quality and finishing just screams “made with love” . sad to hear that we have to wait for the Wii version.. the way the game works now .. one can hardly think it’s a beta,
    some question have arisen though
    1. where is the community? i’m sure alot of people who pre-ordered are screaming for a forum where they can show their wackiest towers and insane highscores on some of the levels.. (i really wonder how some can make such HUGE towers!)

    2. will their be co-op in the pc version? i have played a couple of games with dual mouse support.. i hope the pc-users are not left out in the cold =D
when i’m traveling it’s easier to bring my laptop.. instead of my wii ;-D

well that’s it . would like to congradulate 2dboy studio’s.. as a game designer myself. this is what i aspire to make myself!

  23. Eamon Says:

Add me to the list of customers who heard about your game for the first time from Penny Arcade. Can’t wait for the full game!

  24. Ballisticsfood Says:

Gotta agree with the PC co-op idea. If it can be done with dual wiimotes i’m sure you can do it using USB mice, like Ragdoll Kung Fu (does anyone remember that game?) did for multiplayer on one machine.
